Assistant Professor Vasil Zagorov, PhD (b. 09 Jan. 1980) is one of the young researchers in the
sphere of the Bulgarian book and media history. In 2002 he graduated in Library and Information Studies
from Sofia University “St. Klimed Ohridski”. His diploma paper is entitled Literature, Men of Letters,
Literary Schools of the Bulgarian Catholics in the 17th C. In 2003 he defended a degree in Journalism
with his paper Media Coverage of the Second War in the Gulf (20th March 2003 - 20th April 2003). In 2008
he defended his PhD Paper at Sofia University, Faculty of Journalism, entitled Book Publishing of Translated
Russian Fiction in Bulgaria (1918-1944). His interest in the sphere of Print Communications has been
expressed in many of his publications and scientific papers such as: The System Book – Media – Advertisement
between the Two World Wars, Book Publishing Initiatives of the Russian Emigration in Bulgaria up to 1944,
Statistics in the History of the Book – Benefit and/or Harm, etc. A wide range of economic, political and
cultural issues are treated in relation to book history in Bulgaria between 1878 and 1944.
D-r Zagorov is experienced at practical tutorial work connected with
book publishing in Bulgaria, book trade and journalism. Since 2005 he has been a guest tutor in History of
the Book in the Print and Publishing Department of Sofia University. He has been a lecturer at the
University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT) since 2009 in History of the Book and
Antique Book Trade.
Alongside his tutoring activities D-r Zagorov participates in various
ULSIT events and the Bulgarian Scientific Society, related with the book research field – seminars,
scientific conferences and projects. The current project is a natural extension of his scientific
activities and interests.
